Cetearyl Alcohol & Cetyl Alcohol

Cetearyl Alcohol & Cetyl Alcohol

Look at any natural moisturiser that contains water and you’ll likely find these two ingredients. The reason is they serve a chemical purpose while being natural, super gentle and beneficial to your skin.

Don’t be put off by the term alcohol, alcohol isn’t always Ethanol or the stuff you rub into your hands to kill germs.

Cetyl Alcohol and Cetearyl Alcohol are derived from vegetable fats (ours come from coconut by the way) and are known as ‘Fatty Alcohols’ which have the raw appearance of solid white wax.

These fatty alcohols serve two purposes. Firstly, as a natural emollient which forms a light and breathable protective layer on the surface of the skin to prevent moisture loss and nourish skin. Secondly, to emulsify water and oils together.
